    M&A Awards Gala Categories:

    • 1. Deal of the year: law firm: this category aims to recognize exceptional achievement by the legal advisors to one of the parties, which contributed to the overall success of the transaction.
    • 2. Deal of the year: accounting firm: this category aims to recognize exceptional achievement by the accounting firm performing financial due diligence, tax due diligence or other transaction services, which contributed to the overall success of the transaction. (Note that financial advisory services are not included in this category but rather in category No. 3 below).
    • 3. Deal of the year (under $20M): financial advisor: this category aims to recognize exceptional achievement by the financial advisor to the buyer or seller, which contributed to the overall success of the transaction. (Note: amount measured by transaction price at closing. Includes investment banks, accounting firms (advisory services group) and independent advisors or brokers).
    • 4. Deal of the year (over $20M): financial advisor: this category aims to recognize exceptional achievement by the financial advisor to the buyer or seller. (Note: amount measured by transaction price at closing. Includes investment banks, accounting firms (advisory services group) and independent advisors or brokers).
    • 5. Private equity deal of the year (acquisition of minority interest): this category aims to recognize the transactional skills and strategic vision of a private equity investor (PE fund or institutional private equity) who has purchased a minority stake in a business (under 50% of voting shares).
    • 6. Private equity deal of the year (acquisition of a majority interest): this category aims to recognize the transactional skills and strategic vision of a private equity investor (PE fund or institutional private equity) who has purchased a controlling interest in a business (over 50% of voting shares).
    • 7. Debt financing deal of the year: this category aims to recognize the deal performance and service excellence of a bank or institutional lender in providing acquisition debt financing to a purchaser in the context of an M&A transaction (includes management buy-out, but does not include general or operational financings in a non-transaction context).
    • 8. Strategic acquisition of the year: this category aims to recognize an entrepreneur or strategic acquirer for its business vision, strategy and execution in growing by way of acquisition. (Private equity funds or their platform companies not eligible, as they are included in category No. 6 above).
